I'm going to MG tonight, as I said in the previous post. I'll be back on Monday night, so I'll only be posting now next Tuesday.

For now, some downtown Sao Paulo pics taken from the nice restaurant at the building where I work (or used to, from tomorrow on). Not bad a view huh? (I mean, it's not really pretty, but it's interesting and fascinating).

Center on this next one there's Copan, the S-shaped building by renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer (he was also on the team that designed UN's building in NYC).

Run, Dea, Run!

I´ve been in such a rush these days. Today I picked up some college´s documents - my academic history and a statement proving that I finished the course - and closed one of my bank accounts. Then I came to work and decided to sign my resignation today, thought I´m still working untill tomorrow. Brazilian labor laws are really complicated, so there are lots of steps in the process untill I actually get my money and all. I´ve got to undergo a health check up exam, then go to the union to get some papers...and I can only do it after they deposit my money...but they have 8 days to do that, which means that I´ll only complete the whole process on the last minute, the last friday before I go!! :s (I totally forgot I´d have to do all that when i set up the date for the trip...but I don´t regret anyway...hehehe)
Tomorrow I´m gonna have my hair cut (and etc ;-) in the morning, then I´ll come for my last day at work, then I´ll probably go to MG (Minas Gerais - the state where part of my family lives) to say bye to some of my relatives, especially my dear grandma Geralda. I´ll spend three days there.

Today I had lunch at the mall and at the elevator I ran into a girl in a very neat bun...which reminded me that it´s Cuballet time! aw, man! How I miss it!! Cuballet is a ballet (obviously) summer intensive course that lasts all of January, with great Cuban teachers, offered at the academy at that mall. I attended it last year and it was fantastic - very few things can make me happier than spending the whole morning every single day of the week taking dance classes (one of then being spending the whole morning AND the whole afternoon at the classes, which I couldn´t do because of my work!). I´d be there now if I wasn´t traveling this month already... I can´t wait to resume my classes, seriously!!

And I´m not even there yet but I already got things on my schedule. Yesterday Al´s friend invited him for his birthday on a NY club...only six days after I get there!! What a test!! And also another friend invited us to visit her in Boston and go skiing with her and her husband! How cool is that! Can´t wait either!!

Meet the sister

I (finally) met Al's sister yesterday, Alta! He introduced us through the webcam. I was dying to meet his family, but at the same time I was veeeeery nervous about it. He tried to surprise me saying he had "something to show me" when I got home, but he had used the same strategy when he "introduced" me to his mother last year, so I ended up figuring it out. On my way back home from work, I kept rehearsing in my head what I could say to her, but I didn't go very far...
Anyway, it was great! Although it wasn't quite a surprise to find her there (in our apartment), I was indeed suprised by how everything went. She's extremely nice and cool (and also very pretty!), and she was very happy when we told her everything (yeah, she didn't know any of the plans yet hehehe). She was also very supportive and said that she will go out with me to show me around and to help with girls' stuff. hehehe I really really liked her and hope we can be good friends :D I got really happy yesterday and it even made me forget the anticipated saudades and wish I was there already!!

That conversation also made me realize something: I think that Al instinctively slows down when he's talking to me, cause I thought she spoke so fast, and he also spoke faster when he was adressing her. You guys keep boosting my ego saying that my English is good, but I'm foreseeing weeks of adjustment in that matter :S hehehe

Yesterday I also started packing...one of the bags is full already, and it's only my winter clothes and one crochet bed cover my now 96-year-old grandma made me. Everything else has to go in the other one...which probably means I'll have to leave more things behind than I had planned... :s

Fashion Emergency!

People have warned me already, but seeing it in pictures (on the previously mentioned The Sartorialist and on Fly Girls*, who are now on my blogroll) makes it worse. I´m definitely gonna need a change of style when I get there. I mean, not really a change of style, cause I know what my style is and I´m not changing it. I just need new pieces to go with it. When I was cleaning my closet, I realized I had too much clothes from many years ago, which means my teen years! (not very appropriate for now, I guess...). Not that I´m complaining about having to go shopping for clothes, tho...heeheheh
Erica told me NY girls love layered looks, and that´s something I always liked too but never managed to pull off. Yesterday I gave it another try, layering a dress with skin tight ankle lenght pants, complete with ballet flats and my big necklace my mom got me from Christmas. I forgot to take a picure but I think it looked nice... :)

It doesn´t hurt to ask

When this first came up, some friends sent it to me right away. New York Time´s Questions couples should ask (or wish they had) before marrying is a nice little article that gives food for thought even if you are miles away from walking down the aisle. Personally, I think most of them are common sense, but it´s never too much to think about those things before giving such a huge step in life. Having known Al for 8 years (and both of us being veeery talkative about every and anything), we had pratically tackled all of the subjects. But it was still nice to get his (spontaneous) email with all of the answers :) There always can be one little thing or another that you didn´t know of...or, if anything, it can make you very happy with some of the answers :D

On a different note, I found a very interesting thing on Suburban Bliss´ Melissa Summer´s site Buzz Off (I´ll borrow her own description): "For as little as $4 a month, More Thyme will help you plan your meals each week. Using your own recipes or theirs, you can easily fill your calendar with menus and let them give you a shopping list". yeah...they do make money out of anything on the US! But I might as well try a few days of the free trial version, since planning meals, rather than making them, is my worst nightmare!! :s

Despedida

É...relutei em usar essa palavra, mas tive que me render - que remédio? O problema é que quando você marca uma despedida, fica esperando que pelo menos uns 40% das pessoas que você chamou vá. E chega na hora se decepciona por terem ido 10%, quando muito. Mas é bobeira, na verdade a gente tem que ficar feliz por aquelas que foram, claro, pois essas sim se importam. (E claro, tem sempre aquelas que não podem realmente ir por um ou outro motivo, mesmo se importando...) Enfim, toda essa digressão para anunciar também por aqui que está marcada minha despedida/bota-fora/whatever dia 20 de janeiro, no Piola da al. Lorena, às 21h. Pra quem não recebeu ou perdeu o email, fica o lembrete. Também hoje assinei minha cartinha oficial de demissão. É...tô desligando...

Housewife in training

First 2007 post! woo-hoo! :D

Since yesterday I've been playing housewife hehehehe. Our maid is on vacation, so I have to care for my father. That means making the bed, making breakfast, doing the dishes, going out to buy his magazines and food for lunch, making lunch, doing the dishes, preparing scnacks, doing the dishes...oh and did I mention doing the dishes after every single thing?
Anyway, it was about time that I get used to those things...at least I think everything came out good, I didn't even had to rush my father to finish his lunch, and he complimented me for the food :D

I've also started to check my closet to see what I'm gonna take and what i'm gonna leave...such a hard task! There are those things you bought and never wore and know you'll never will but you wanna keep "just in case"...there are those long ago worn out pieces that you love and you just can't get rid of them...but you have to be strong and let them go hehehe. My cousins are lining up already hoping they can grab anything nice hehehe. Almost every piece brings back so many memories, it feels like I could spend my whole life in this process...

Mommy and me

We had the best day shopping for my things today! Everybody else is already at the beach for the New Year and we're only going tomorrow. It was a long time since we didn't go out like this, just my mother and I. We had lunch at the mall, then we went to the store to check the luggage I had already researched for. Suprisingly, we had inverted roles this time. I showed her the cheapest one I could find for the size I wanted, but she insisted that we took another one, that was the double price! I wasn't prepared for spending that much, but it was on her (and grandma), so...hehehe.
But then the saga began. She suggested that we also checked other store, to which we had to go by bus (cause the car is with the other part of the family at the beach). We din't find better ones there, so we went back. At the 1st store, we asked the clerck to recheck the measures she had taken (cause there's a limit for the luggage size also), only to find out she had taken them wrongly! which meant that apparently the ones at the 2nd store were better! So, we went back home to recheck the size limit with the airline company (cause we didn't know if we had to count the bag's wheels or not), then we ended up buying the luggage at the first store later. (Does that sound confusing? yeah, that's how it seemed to us at the time also, and almost frustrating!) But I really liked the ones I got!
And also we bought....hum....something that a friend suggested I had a shower of...instead of a house shower since I can't take all the stuff with me! hehehe of course I can't take a picture of that....only a privileged one will be lucky to see them...but I'm really really happy with them also, they're gorgeous! hehehe
Today I also scheduled my last haircut and highlights (and progressiva! hehehe). Actually, now everything I do is the "last" before I go....kindda scary actually hehehe
Oh, and I already got my passport back, with my visa :D
Tomorrow I'm going to the beach, I'll see y'all in 2007 now. *HAPPY NEW YEAR*! (e põe "new" nisso!)

Engraçado que agora, de repente, parece que tenho tão pouco tempo pra fazer tudo que preciso antes de ir!!
Hoje comprei isto e isto para dar de presente para minha cunhada, que é fotógrafa e artista. São bem legais, as imagens fogem daquela coisa apenas exótica, e o de São Paulo principalmente tem coisas bem originais.
Só não sei o que vou levar pra minha sogra. Queria muito levar alguma coisa, mas o Al diz que ela é muito difcícil de agradar, muito criteriosa, e, além de tudo, ele não quer me dar nenhuma dica!!! Não sei o que faço....
Amanhã vou comprar minhas malas. O reloginho tá tic tic tic....

What's up with that? Depois da inócua explosão no metrô de Sampa, botaram os guardinhas das estações pra checar todos os vagões do trem quando chega na Ana Rosa. Como eu pego lá todo dia pra voltar pra casa, acho que a paranóia tá passando pra mim e até eu já to checando embaixo dos assentos pra ver se não tem nenhum pacotinho. Mas isso certamente foi obra de algum teenager babaca que fica vendo muita TV e achando "muito loucas" as coisas que passam no noticiário. Se fosse algo sério já tinham feito algo pra arrebentar de vez, né? Ai ai, achava que só teria essas coisas quando chegasse lá! Ridículo.

Elis x Marisa

Acabei de ver o especial da Globo sobre a Elis Regina, putz, sem palavras... Essa mulher arrepia e emociona só pela TV, imagina como devia ser ao vivo! (see Elis Regina in English). Graças aos céus pela rádio uol, que disponibiliza vários discos dela (listen in streaming for free) pra eu matar a saudade lá sem ter que gastar com CDs. Já a tosca da Marisa Monte fica com frescura de proteger os discos com programa espião que eu me recuso a instalar, portanto não consegui copiar o CD que eu ganhei de Natal pro computador. É lógico que ela também não liberou pra rádio uol, ou seja, lá vai mais um voluminho pra mala...pq o "Universo ao meu redor" é muito bom. Pra quem gosta do estilo, recomendo.

Ufa! Phew!

Pronto, falei! Ai ai, agora tudo saiu de cima dos meus ombros, finalmente. Não consegui ser demitida, mas meu chefe é muuuito gente boa e a conversa foi bem tranqüila (diferentemente do meu estado nas 24 horas anteriores). Último obstáculo: entrevistinha do aeroporto! Mas quem tirou até aqui de letra, pfff...o resto é fichinha! Trabalho até meados de janeiro. Agora vamos correr atrás da passagem.

I finally spoke to my boss! Now I took everything off my shoulders, phew! I couldn´t get them to fire me (so I´d get more money), but my boss is realy nice and the talk went fine. Last obstacle: the airport´s little interview. But if I came this far, nothing can stop me anymore! I´ll work untill mid-January, and now we´re gonna search for my ticket.

Mar de rosas

Não, nem tudo é um. Tem certas coisas que simplesmente não funcionam à distância, mas vc tenta fazer mesmo assim e acaba sendo meio desgastante pq não se chega a lugar nenhum. Mas tudo bem. Agora acabou a parte principal da mudança, já chegaram a cama, racks, sofá, máquina de lavar e prateleiras. Mas ainda tem mil detalhes esperando por mim quando eu chegar lá (e é bom que esperem mesmo! hehehe). Muito legal ver a lenta transformação da casa em algo um tanto quanto medonho para um espaço acolhedor e mais com a nossa cara.

Há aquele mito de que jornalista não sabe contar, e eu sou uma vergonhosa prova. Não sei que que eu fiz que eu mudei a contagem regressiva no meio pra o dia 26 ser o zero, só que hoje seria o UM e amanhã o zero....ah, que se dane, o importante é que é depois de amanhã já, e agora eu acho que estou tranqüila e já posso contar as horas....Wish me good luck!

A pizzada no Graminha ontem tava tão boa que eu nem pensei nessas coisas enquanto tava lá. Digo, na angústia do visto, não em todo o resto dos planos (antes que alguma de vocês me acuse! hehehe). Thank you, girls!!! E lá se foi o três, e chegamos ao DOIS! Reta final, wo-hooo!!! (Juro que depois dessa não vou querer fazer contagem regressiva nem pro Ano Novo!)

Off-Topic

Hoje eu tinha conseguido me desligar um pouco da ansiedade com o visto, até receber uma ligação perguntando sobre isso e tudo voltar de novo....mas tinha passado a manhã inteira com a cabeça em outro assunto, com muita saudade do ballet! Odeio férias do ballet, ninguém merece!!! Tomara que dê certo o meu esquema de janeiro, pra eu fazer aulas. E tomara que eu consiga voltar a fazer lá! Enquanto me lamentava, aproveitei o tempo pra copiar as fotos do último espetáculo, Mary Poppins - minha estréia na ponta!, enquanto assistia a meu ballet preferido, La Bayadère. (Eu sou a 1a da direita nas 2 fotos, e somos pingüins, pra quem não notou! hehehe)






Agora só faltam QUATRO!! wo-hooo!

Super Al!

É ou não é o máximo?! Ontem ele foi no apê e já instalou a cortina do banheiro e as da janelas dos dois cômodos! (Lá não tem mamata de mão-de-obra barata não! hehehe vc acaba tendo que colocar muito mais a mão na massa...) Fiquei tão feliz que nem vou fazer a reclamação que ia fazer hoje sobre casamentos....quem sabe num dia q estiver com mais raiva de novo eu faça...hehehehe

As fotos não estão grande coisa porque eu tirei do vídeo que ele me mandou, mas dá pra ter uma idéia. Meninas que tinham visto o 1o vídeo, perceberam que a parede já foi pintada? Ficou bem mais bonitinho! E foi bom que neste último vídeo que ele mandou deu pra ver os armários da cozinha, são melhores do que eu imaginava! hehehe

Ao contrário do que tinha dito ontem, acho que vou conseguir ser levada de carro pro consulado, êba!! (mimada, eu?) Faltam só CINCO!!

Quase...

Hoje eu quase fiz o trajeto-teste até o consulado. Passei pela Ana Rosa, e o ônibus que eu tenho que pegar sai de lá. Mas já eram quase 10h, e o sol já tava queimando (faz tempo!). Fiquei um pouco na fila esperando mas desisti logo...eu sei que nos próximos dias até lá a configuração não vai mudar muito, mas ficar tostando no ônibus 1 hora pra ir mais 1 hora pra voltar (no mínimo - e pra não fazer nada) não é necessariamente um programa que alguêm dê pulos de alegria pra fazer....Parace que tudo que eles fazem é pra dificultar né? Precisava ir praquela lonjura de Santo Amaro? Na Paulista era bem melhor...
Bem que minha mãe podia se animar a me levar até lá...mas até parece que ela vai querer, a pessoa que mais ama dirigir que eu conheço (depois de mim, claro).
Ah uma coisa boa! hoje não é o dia sete, mas o SEIS! Eu não estou trapaceando, é que como eu contei o 16 como 10, o próprio dia 26 vai dar no 1 da contagem regressiva, mas na verdade é o zero, então acabei "ganhando"um dia! êba! :)
